AP sources: Phoenix acquires January and trades Robinson

By DOUG FEINBERG

NEW YORK (AP) Two people familiar with the situation tell The Associated Press that the Phoenix Mercury are trading Danielle Robinson to the Minnesota Lynx for the No. 12 pick in the WNBA draft.

The Mercury are also acquiring Briann January from the Indiana Fever for Phoenix's No. 8 pick in the draft.

The people spoke on the condition of anonymity Tuesday because no official announcement has been made.

The 28-year-old Robinson will likely back up starting point guard Lindsay Whalen. The Lynx also receive the Mercury's second-round pick in the 2019 draft.

January has spent her entire career with the Fever after getting drafted sixth by Indiana in 2009. She has spent this offseason as an assistant coach with her alma mater Arizona State.

The Fever already own the No. 2 pick in the upcoming WNBA draft.
